German actor David Schütter may look familiar. He appeared in the 2019 remake of Charlie’s Angels and the Netflix streaming German-language series Barbarians.
But since making his debut on German television, Schütter has become an award-winning actor. He has a wide range of television and film work in German and English on his impressive resume.

David Schütter was born as David Schütter-Wieske in 1991 in Hamburg, Germany.
Acting runs in his family. His grandfather Friedrich Schütter was an actor and a director. The younger Schütter studied acting in Hamburg at the Schule für Schauspiel. While still pursuing his training in drama, he won his first acting roles in a variety of television programs and films.
Wir sind jung. Wir sind stark.
The 2014 film Wir sind jung. Wir sind stark. — known as We Are Young. We Are Strong. in English — imagines a drama around the real-life xenophobic riots that took place in Germany city of Rostock-Lichtenhagen in 1992.
Over several nights in late August 1992, a mob set fire to an apartment building where asylum seekers were living. Approximately 3000 neighbors watched on without stopping them and some even cheered. Luckily, and amazingly, no one was killed.
The film tells the story of the riots through the eyes of different characters. Lien is a Vietnamese woman living in Germany and Stefan (portrayed by Jonas Nay) is a young man involved in the riots and whose father is a local politician. Schütter stars as Sandro, a leader of the group inciting the riots.
Unsere Zeit ist jetzt
Popular German rapper Cro wants to make a movie and a competition is held to find just the right idea for the film. That is the storyline for 2016’s Unsere Zeit ist jetzt. And the three finalists could not be more different.
Dawid (portrayed by Schütter) is a scriptwriter who wants to imagine Cro 30 years in the future. Vanessa (Peri Baumeister) is a film student who would like to make a documentary. Comic artist Ludwig (Marc Benjamin) wants to make an animated film. As the trio work through their ideas, they become closer and deal with personal issues.
In einem Land, das es nicht mehr gibt
Set just on the cusp of the reunification of Germany, the 2022 film In einem Land, das es nicht mehr gibt follows the story of Suzie, portrayed by Marlene Burow. Living in East Berlin, Suzie is an 18-year-old who is spontaneously one day photographed by Coyote, an amateur photographer portrayed by Schütter.
The photo jumpstarts Suzie’s modeling career. But the fashion world is fast-paced and the world outside of East Germany is tempting.
