Although he has been working in the German film and television industry for years, actor Kida Khodr Ramadan is probably best known for his recent award-winning performance on the television series 4 Blocks. The show has proven that Germany, too, can produce high-quality and thrilling television that you’ll gleefully binge watch.
But Kida Khodr Ramadan has quite a number of other projects to his name. This month, let’s practice German language with the television and films of actor Kida Khodr Ramadan!
Get To Know Kida Khodr Ramadan
Kida Khodr Ramadan was born in Beirut, Lebanon to Turkish-Lebanese parents in 1976. Within a few years the family relocated to West Berlin due to the Lebanese Civil War. Like many his age, Ramadan was taken by the hip hop scene as an adolescent. He and friends became street performers and break dancers for tourists in Berlin.
It was a chance meeting with Neco Çelik, a Turkish-German director, at a summer camp for youths that Ramadan was introduced to film. By 2003 he had made his screen debut with an appearance in the director’s internationally well-received film Alltag.
4 Blocks
In the gritty and quick-paced underworld crime drama 4 Blocks, Ramadan portrays Toni, the head of a family of Lebanese immigrants. The family is running clubs, slot machines and drugs in Berlin’s Neukölln neighborhood. But there’s competition building and a turf war as a motorcycle club encroaches on their territory. (Look for Ludwig Trepte as one of the bikers.) All this as Toni works to get his permanent citizenship and become a legitimate businessman.
When Vince, a long-lost family friend portrayed by Frederick Lau, shows up unexpectedly not everyone is as happy. Toni’s brother Abbas (portrayed by rapper turned actor Veysel Gelin) is suspicious and reluctant to bring the outsider in.
Over the course of the series’ six episodes things get darker and more intense. A second season is already in the works.
3 Türken & 1 Baby
In 2015’s 3 Türken & 1 Baby, Ramadan stars with actor Kostja Ullmann and rapper Eko Fresh as brothers Sami, Celal and Mesut, respectively. The trio aren’t so lucky in love. Celal is focusing on starting a business after a major heartbreak. Mesut is an aspiring musician but finds it challenging with his strict adherence to his Muslim faith. But the brothers are thrown a curveball when a baby enters their lives.
The premise of this one might sound a little familiar. But the light-hearted comedy is sure to help you crack a smile.
Nur Gott kann mich richten
Actor Moritz Bleibtreu stars in 2017’s Nur Gott kann mich richten as Ricky. He is a convict who is freshly out of prison and looking for a new start. However, Ricky’s family and friends have a different idea in mind. His friend Latif (portrayed by Ramadan) wants to get Ricky back in the game, as it were. Ultimately, Ricky is pulled back into his former life. But it’s a choice that isn’t without its consequences.
The film also stars Peter Simonischek as Ricky’s father.
