Get to Know Franz Dinda
Franz Alexander Dinda was born on March 25, 1983, in Jena, then part of East Germany. Six months before the reunification of Germany, his mother—part of the resistance—successfully petitioned for the family to leave the country. They quickly moved to a reception camp in Darmstadt, West Germany.
During his school years, Dinda discovered his passion for acting through student productions. He also pursued music, spending six years playing the trumpet, joining a boys’ choir in Stuttgart, and hosting an internet radio show for a Berlin record label.
Dinda’s first break came with a television commercial for a German-language comic book. By his late teens, he had secured a role in a youth-focused television series.
Kein Bund für’s Leben
The 2007 comedy Kein Bund für’s Leben stars Franz Dinda as Basti, a young man attempting to avoid military duty.
Basti teams up with Thorsten (played by Florian Lukas), who shares his goal of evading service. The duo tries to cheat a medical test by using a urine sample from Thorsten’s diabetic girlfriend, but the plan hilariously backfires—she’s pregnant!
When all else fails, Basti finds himself thrust into basic training, where he’s surrounded by an eccentric group of hopeless recruits. What follows is a wild and comedic adventure.
Das Boot
The iconic film Das Boot was reimagined in 2018 as a television series. Set in late 1942, the series captures the intense submarine warfare of the time while also exploring the growing Resistance movement in La Rochelle, France.
Franz Dinda stars as Oberleutnant zur See Robert Ehrenberg, the lead engineer aboard the U-612 submarine. Beneath his calm exterior lies a man haunted by a traumatic past.

Matze, Kebab und Sauerkraut
In the 2020 film Matze, Kebab und Sauerkraut, Franz Dinda stars as Noah, alongside Omar El-Saeidi as Hakim. The two longtime Berlin friends find themselves competing for the affection of Charlotte (Christine Eixenberger).
The trio’s cultural differences add an extra layer of complexity to their love triangle. Charlotte is a Catholic Bavarian, Noah is Jewish, and Hakim is Muslim. The resulting rivalry is both humorous and heartfelt, proving that love is a battlefield.
